Martin Bandzak was born (1975) in Bratislava in Czechoslovakia (now Slovak Republic). He spent part of his childhood in Zambia, where his parents worked as medical doctors. In his photographic projects he focuses on people living on the edge of society and in crises situations around the world.

In 2001, he co-founded humanitarian organisation MAGNA. The organisation provides medical and nutritional help to children and their families in three continents. Since 2002, he has lived alternately in Phnom Penh and Bratislava.

In 2010 and 2017 the International Jury of Czech Press Photo (CPP) awarded him the main prize Photograph of the Year for his pictures of a young girl injured in the Haiti earthquake and Hezballah boy. Beside that his work was awarded numerous times on Czech Press Photo and other competitions.
